Rugby is a contact sport that needs several skills. This game is almost non-stop right from the moment the starting whistle is blown till the end of the game. Rugby clothing for player includes the clothes that are supposed to be the dress code for the game. This includes rugby shorts and jersey or t-shirt. The shorts are light in weight, which reach mid-thigh or higher for ease of running and movement. The jersey is made of tough and thick woolen material in the color of the respective team. Headgear is usually not worn as there are strict regulations stopping head-high tackles. Though, players in positions like in the scrum the ‘Rake’ or ‘Hooker’ may opt to wear a leather protector for head.  Other protective gear includes dental protectors or mouth guards, arm protectors, grip gloves that provide additional grip on the ball, shin pads and compression shorts. They’re an integral part of the standard dress code, and rugby boots are of course worn by all the players. These boots must possess blunt studs on the soles to prevent slipping while the players make a wild run. The referees are responsible for checking them before the beginning of the game to ensure that they are not too sharp.

Socks in the color of the respective team are again compulsory to be worn. These are to be worn knee high and they come with cushioned sole for extra comfort. The socks can be made up of nylon, cotton or woolen material.

A kicking tee would be needed by a player who is taking kicks at the goalpost. This kicking gear comes in several forms, and at few places, the player may even be allowed to use sand.
